Chosing a theme for your wedding isn't always the easiest thing to do. However, if you are the type who loves Earth tones or loves classical movies, a black-and-white themed wedding is always a nice elegant option. Here are a couple of pointers based on what we have decided to do with our own wedding.
Decking out the Bridesmaids
We have 5 bridesmaids and 5 groomsmen. Each of the bridesmaids were instructed to get a black bridesmaid dress. However the style of the dress was left to their own choosing. The nice thing about leaving the style up to the bridesmaids is that it allows for a nice continuity to the ceremony while still allowing the individuality of each bridesmaid to shine. This of course, requires trusting your bridesmaids not to go overboard with the concept. Still, 99% of bridesmaids will pick a nice elegant black dress for your wedding. Here are a couple of dresses we have found while browsing online. I've seen a couple of them and they look exquisite! Cheap too considering what I've seen some bridesmaids pay for a bridesmaid dress at Ann Taylor and Cameille. These dresses are, of course, both available in black. The 3rd one listed below is a best seller and has lots of positive reviews. It is also one of the nicest cheaper dresses I have seen.
The Groomsmen!
Well this is a no brainer. Black tuxedos are the traditional route. Patty and I have decided on having me in a traditional tuxedo while my groomsmen will be in a black tuxedo with a black shirt and white tie. This will provide a subtle yet noticable difference between myself and the groosmen. Of course you could always flip the color scheme and go with a white tuxedo with black shirts and ties. Either way, this one is easy! We found coupon's in wedding magazines for 20% off of tuxedo rentals at Goody's. Not a bad deal if you ask me, especially when I am paying for them on my medical school loan budget! And no, I am not linking some pictures of tuxedos here since, well, you are a woman and you have probably seen every tux there is when compared to me! ;)
Decking out the Reception Hall.
Ah yes. Most importantly is the lauded reception. As I was soon to find out,
there are a *ton* of wedding favors out there in black and white.
Everything from little compact mirrors to candies to coffee beans. We decided
on little packs of ground coffee with black ribbon and our names emblazoned on
it. We are "The perfect blend!" Such a nice ring to it eh? Hanging
black streamers from the ceiling or adding a touch of silver will augment your
lighting well. How about some nice black tablecloths with some white flower
arrangements on the table? My favorite thus far are the White
flower lights
which turn an evening wedding into
something very warm and inviting. Stringing these along a low-lying ceiling
definitely creates some nice ambiance. :)
And there are some quick ideas on having a black and white themed wedding! I'll add more as time goes on and I get more ideas!
